The radioactive dust from the shells is widely beieved by many Iraqis and US military vets to cause a variety of cancers. There have been a number of studies, scientific and otherwise (anecdotal), without agreement on the degree of hazard. The DOD report essentially says that the problem is more closely linked to heavy metal poisoning than to radioactivity.
