I don't get to see the early mornings much anymore, but the hour before dawn has always been my favourite, from when I was a surfer, and later when I was a factory worker.
As a surfer it was always a humbling experience to be next to the ocean alone at that hour, whatever the season, whatever the weather. Surf or no surf, to jump into the ocean alone, before sunrise, is both calming and terrifying if you can take that on board.
Arriving at the factory before sunrise as I recall was not quite as awe-inspiring, but I always rose early enough to enjoy the peace of the morning, at home, on the way to work, and in the factory I would have a cup of coffee with others of like mind before the machinery was started up.
Now I am a father, and my new favourite hour varies according to the moods of master and madam.
