What's a 'proper folk club anyway? Improper ones sound a lot more interesting. Around about 1973 The Lifeboat on the St Ives harbourfront used to have booked guests and this continued on and off for many years. Last time I was there, about three years ago but in winter, there were sessions at the Great Western and a summer one was due to reopen in Carbis Bay (can't remember where exactly but probably Scotty's) after Easter. In summer in the late 1960s we used to play on Porthmeor beach in the afternoons, or sometimes high up in the hills between St Ives and Penzance. I wonder if this still happens? Somehow I doubt it.
