Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Mo Ghile Mear (Chieftains version)
People are hearing Sting sing very different things, obviously.

The following is what I heard Sting singing in Gaelic (it also fits
with the Gaelic pronunciations that I know of...you either don't
pronounce, or barely pronounce, the "gh" at the end of "chuaigh"
...maybe not the "ch" in "laoch" either, although "ch" at the ends
of words is usually pronounced [as in "loch"]) (note: when "ch" is
pronounced, pronounce it softly as in "loch", not as in "chair" etc.).

Shay ma lay, ma heela mar (there's very definitely an "r" on the end!),
Shay ma Chaesar, heela mar (again, there's an "r" pronounced in
"Chaesar", and it's [very soft ch] "chay zar", not "haze ah"),
Shohn na shayn nih voras fain,
Ah (soft ch) chain ih gain, ma heela mar (or possibly "ah heela mar" on the last one).

(That's what I still have memorized from years ago, I don't know
where my tape of it is now, but I listened to it over and over and
I do remember it very clearly, plus most of the pronunciations that
I remember fit either exactly or almost exactly with Gaelic
pronunciation guides that I've seen/read elsewhere [not for that
song, but for some of those words and others with similar sounds!].)
