Wilson and Superman both emerged into the public view in the same year, 1938. They make an interesting contrast. I think I'd prefer a world in which Wilson with his quirky individuality and his scorn for modernity was the more respected figure.

A later hero with quite a lot of similarities who got rather more attention was Kwai Chang Caine, the hero of the 1970s Kung-Fu TV series played by David Carradine.
