Having not heard one, I can't offer a real opinion, but every time I see/hear one of their ads I'm reminded of the ad man's adage: "You don't need to advertise if your product's really better than the rest of 'em." Bose advertises a lot.

Since it's a long way out of my price range it's too far out of my interest range to justify searching out their "secret patents" on the special features they claim to have. I made some fairly casual searches a couple of years ago; but since I didn't find anything I sort of lost interest.

Zenith had a (possibly) similar pitch in the late 1940s and a bit into the 50s, and their radios (AM) did sound better to many people. They sold a lot of them and got great testimonials from satisfied users. They used a speaker about a half inch larger in diameter than the average, put it in a closed box to stiffen it up a bit, boosted everything below 70 Hz by about 6 dB and dumped everything above about 12 kHz. It sounded better than the average AM radio to most people, because it didn't have all the hiss and crackle, and the strong bass made it "soothing."

When decent fidelity systems started to be cheap in the early-mid 50s people learned it was incredibly low-fi, and that style simply stopped selling.

"Sounds good to me" is not a very convincing sales pitch (for me), and I haven't heard anything but that from Bose. (But maybe I just quit listening when I heard the price.)
