Subject: RE: Obit: Sam Mitchell
I just read that Sam Mitchell died, and I'm really sad to hear it. He was without a doubt my favorite blues/slide guitarist, and I thought his voice was just great. I wish I would have had the chance to hear him live, but I never hung around Copenhagen much. I can imagine how much his music was loved there. Anyway, I could never get enough of listening to Sam's version of "Rollin' and Tumblin'." I have always thought he played that song better than anyone I have ever heard. "Hambone" is another one of my favorites. For the past few days I have been unable to get Sam's lovely song "Sunshine in Houston" out of my head. For days, I have been playing it repeatedly on my acoustic guitar and singing it - what a lovely tune it is. It occured to me to look up Sam Mitchell on the net and see if the lyrics to this tune might be posted somewhere out there - and I found this news of his death instead. I had been singing and playing "Sunshine in Houston" since just around the time of his death. An interesting coincidence, I guess. But this is sad news. God bless you, Sam, thank you. May the blues all be sweet. Guess I'll go play "Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground." Man... Sam Mitchell died... what a loss... Rest in Peace...
