Re: Cumberland Mountain Deer Chase

Oh, Rover, Rover, see him, see him
Rover, Rover [it's] catch him, catch him
Over the mountain the hills and the fountain
Away to the chase, away, away

Stewie earlier in this thread says:
"I can't hear any 'it's' in the Rover stanza and I think Uncle Dave is singing the plural 'Rovers, Rovers', which would be more logical, but I couldn't swear to it."

50 years ago, when I was growing up and visiting my cousins who lived in rural NC and loved to hunt ... I used to hear them talk to their dogs ...
and it sounded something like this:

"skit him, skit him"

What they were slurring was ... "Let's get him; Let's get him."

Perhaps this "Rover" stanza is

"sketch him, ketch him"
or
"'s catch him, catch him"
from
"Let'd catch him, catch him."
