There is a style of sushi in which the ingredients normally enclosed in a sushi roll, including cut up strips of wakame (the seaweed used to wrap SOME(###) types of sushi rolls) are merely scattered on the top of the sushi rice in a bowl.

(###) Silken style sushi is wrapped in a special thin omelette, not wakame.
