This study was released a few days ago, and it's received a lot of coverage, although this Detroit Free Press article doesn't require that you register to read it.
They seem to suggest that the younger generation (age 20s to 50s) has fewer friends that the previous generation (60s and above). I thought that my mother had a lot of friends, but I'm beginning to doubt that. She socialized with a lot of people, but they dropped her like a hot potato when she started showing signs of Alzheimers.
As for myself, I am an only child, and I cultivated my solitude. But I think I have more people in my life who I can open up to than she did.
I'd like to know if other 'catters find this true in their lives? Do you plan to make any changes in your life now that you know this? What would you change?
