I went to an Irish session in a pub about two months ago that John was leading. He said he had had some medical problems but was feeling much better. His playing sounded fine. He may have mentioned other things that he was doing, but I don't recall them right now. (Perhaps leading a session in Connecticut?) At any rate, he's definitely still involved with the music.
