This has not been a good week.

We've lost Fred Trueman and a brace of fine folk musicians in quick succession.    There is a link.

Fred Trueman first came to Australia as a feisty, in your face, fast bowler at a time when I was 'slightly' inspired to look at a cricketing future. (Hah! Such delusions.)   Fred Trueman from Yorkshire will always have 307 more Test wickets than Bruce from Bathurst.

Like Fred Trueman, Igor Medio and Carlos Redondo also made several trips to Australia, but as members of the wonderful band Felpeyu. Igor and Carlos introduced us to their Asturian musical heritage from northern Spain and made many friends along the way.   Felpeyu even inspired us to form a band to play Asturian music - quite an achievement.

Sadly, Igor and Carlos died in a motor vehicle accident last weekend on their way to a gig and right now they are greatly missed by their friends around the world.

Fred Trueman was from Yorkshire, not England, and Igor Medio and Carlos Redondo came from Asturias, not Spain.   For me, pride in their regional cultural identity is the link between them.

They will be missed.
