Subject: RE: BS: Religion=good folk doing bad things?
I cannot agree, much as I would like to, as I have met many people who are in full possession of their powers and have no truck of any kind with religious considerations, and consider same to be one of the most dangerous sort of delusions. I don't think all people ARE religious. I do think that every major people (in the sense of large ethnic populations) has given rise to some form of religious thought. It is debatable whether this is simply a by-product of having a lot of phenomena observed and only the weakest of models to explain it with. How much rationality can you attribute, for example, to a postulate like "maybe the earth rides on the back of a really huge tortoise"? Or "vulcanism is the wrath of huge invisible enitties being expressed, but it's our fault for pissing them off...". Sheesh.

Agnostics, to respond to the flourish of flowery rhetoric in LH's post, are not religious, at least not in any usual sense of the word. If you want to argue that they worship not knowing, I think you're drawing a really long bow.
