"Why do you object to my doing that?"

because of the way in which you do that. Instead of outlining and explaining why you think there needs to be a " deeper study into human motivations", and **WHY** you wish to expand on "how the word is generally understood" you usually just make the broad statements:

" Everybody IS religious. But NOT necessarily about "God"...just about something they place great importance upon...in other words, something they have faith in."

I'm sorry, but that tells me very little except that you wish to subsume 'issues of great importance' under 'religion' and toss in "having faith" as if that made it all perfectly clear. I 'have faith' that my wife loves me...and I 'have faith' that YOU are honest in your attempts to make these points.....but neither of these fall anywhere what I would consider a 'religious' conviction.

I can't really even quarrel with your ultimate point, LH, as we seldom get that far. The only way most of us HAVE of communicating effectively IS our common language, and if you have points to make that stretch the use of 'commonly understood' terms, you need to lay it out at more length. THAT is what pedantic philosophy is about....otherwise we are reduced to a "yes it is"-
no, it isn't" exercise in futility.
