Knew Paul years ago, and was in a band he reviewed for Stone, Wilderness Road. More importantly: I was a long time subscriber and reader of Little Sandy Review, which Paul helped found and wrote for..... it was one of the earliest folk journals-did some great stuff on Dylan et. al. and was a precursor to the pop worlds Rolling Stone, Creem, and that copse of Rock magazines that hit big in the 60's.
Paul brought a North woods integrity to everything he did. He was born in Warren, Minnesota, and lived most of his life in New York, a town he loved.
He was much beyond the obscurantist crap that came to characterise rock journalism, and he paid a price for his integrity- he spent his last years in exile from mainstream criticism. We shall not see his like again.
