Thread Name: DTCorr: Over and Over Again = Peace Must Come
Subject: DT Corr: Peace Must Come (Paul Metsers)
I think the "DC" at the end of the song entry means the lyrics came from Dennis Cook - Dennis Cook and Susan Friedman were the original sources of the Digital Tradition, which was complied from their notes by Dick Greenhaus in 1988 (click for more history). So, we've had it wrong for a long time. The lyrics don't seem quite right either. I can't promise that Priscilla Herdman has them completely right, either, but here's what she has in the booklet for her 1987 Darkness Into Light CD - it's the only recording of the song that I've been able to find.

PEACE MUST COME
(words & music by Paul Metsers)

1. Many's the time I've heard the bells chime,
Bring the people to pray on a sunny Sunday.
Blessed the meek for the peace they seek
Over and over again.

Chorus:
Over again, oh-over again,
Say it, pray it over again,
Over again, oh-over again,
Peace must come.

2. From way out in space the earth is our place,
A pinpoint of light, whose dwellers still fight,
Survivors shake hands - then make weapons and plans
To do battle all over again.
CHORUS

3. Is it really so hard to lower the guard,
And admit to the greed of more than we need?
The words on the wall are familiar to all,
I've been reading them over again.
CHORUS

(repeat first verse & Chorus)

I don't hear Richard's "Peace that they keep" in the repeat of the first verse.

Here's what's in the DT - I think you'll agree that Herdman's version makes more sense. Anybody have a more definitive version?

OVER AND OVER AGAIN
by an englishwoman that Bob Walser met/knows?

1. Many's the time I heard the bells chime,
Ring the people to pray on a sunny summer's day
Bless is the meek for the peace they seek
Over and over again

Chorus:
Over again, oh over again,
Oh say it, pray it, over again,
Over again, oh over again, oh peace must come

2. From way out in space the earth is our place
a pin point of light who's people still fight
Divide to shake hands, they make lessons and plans
To do battle all over again

3. Is it really so hard to know who's the god,
And admit to the greed, of more than we need,
The words on the wall are familiar to all,
I've been reading them over again.

(repeat first verse)

My personal opinion is that the song is trite, but I'm sure it strikes a chord with many people.
