Independent ballot counts by newspapers, inculding the New York Times (no friend of Bush) concluded that Bush did indeed win the popular vote in Florida.

The real culprit was Ralph Nader, who siphoned off enough liberal - democrat - votes in my county alone to have given Gore a majority. Everyone knew that nader couldn't win but they voted for him and gave the election to Bush.

In the same way, Ross Peroit got Bill Clinton elected. This has been the role of thrid parties through out our nations history in most cases.
