Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If I Was a Blackbird
For those that have a hard time with this being "reworked" by men, we have a local story of a young man named Alexander Fossett who was forbidden to court a young lady. Her parents were so determined to break them up, they sent her to the wilds of Maine (in 1748). He, however was equally determined, worked his way across to Philadelphia, thence north to Pemaquid where he appeared in her garden one evening... SO, when we perform the song, we leave the man's point of view, but change a couple of pronouns and small details to fit THIS story. Folk process. Just for the record, we make it very clear that the song was NOT written about this particular story. Just a nice sequey.
