Like Folk Britannia, the article tends to interpret the hypothesis with a specific political bent. But that's OK, as long as you're well-read enough to understand this.
There are a number of monuments in Wales put up by individuals or by 'public subscription'. The Llewelyn, Last Prince of Wales monument at Cilmeri is one of the best known, perhaps. And there's a rock face on the road between Llanrhystud and Aberystwyth where someone's just painted "Cofio Tryweryn" (Remember Tryweryn) in memory of the valley drowned to provide English cities with water. There's a fantastic sculpture in Cardiff Bay recognizing the contribution of the Merchant Marines. There's a (rather naff) sculpture to Owain Glyndwr in ... Corris, I think. Seem to remember that St Clears, just west of here, has someting commemorating the Rebecca Riots. And there are various monuments to Welsh poets dotted about, some of whom were quite radical.
