My cat, archy, is also black but he's only 12 so I hope not to have to go through that for a long time yet.

A neighbor of mine has had only two dogs in 37 years. Springer spaniels. The first one lived to be 17 and the other started failing at 20; he went quickly after his systems just kind of gave up.
