Thread Name: Lyr Req: Rock and Roll Gypsies
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rock and Roll Gypsies
I've listened to several sound samples and this is the best I can do.
ROCK 'N ROLL GYPSIES
Roger Tillison
...and the places I've been
I'll sing you a song and I won't keep you long,
For the tambourine's playin' and the carnival's calling me on.
And the rock an' roll gypsies are ridin' tonight.
On the carnival strip they stay.
And the golden earrings laugh at the light.
Life is more than a play,
For tomorrow will soon be yesterday.
To the motherless children that ride
On the shadowless highways of life,
It's all just a game;
It's all just the same....
[ROCK 'N ROLL GYPSIES was originally released as a single in 1965 by The Gypsy Trips, a duo consisting of Roger Tillison and his then-girlfriend Terrye Newkirk (who used the name Terrye Tillison). Roger Tillison's web site doesn't mention the song, although it does mention The Gypsy Trips.
[Also recorded by Jesse Ed Davis, Hearts & Flowers, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Vinegar Joe.]
