I can highly recommend the Session on a sunday in the Ormidale (it's a McEwans sponsored session). I went and played when I visited in May and found the people who run it to be really welcoming and friendly. Nice mixed evening of Songs and tunes and I really enjoyed myself. Chap who runs it (whose name I unfortunately can't recall) is a smashing guy.
There was also the beginnings of an evening at the Douglas Hotel on a Wednesday evening (if I remember) but I don't know whether that will have got off the ground - the woman running the hotel was individual one might say.
The Kildonan evening is more a couple of guys playing than a joining in thing - or it was when we went.
There is a hotel in Lochranza where music is played on an ad hoc basis I believe. There is a guitar hanging up ready to be used and they are happy for people to play I believe.
