I am completely sympathetic to the man who shot the neighbor's vicious dog. (A woman aged 71 was killed in our city last week by the neighbor's two vicious dogs.)
However, a 357 is far too powerful a gun to be fired in a populated place. The bullets could have travelled right through the dog's body and into a house and a person. Or into something valuable but less precious, like a car.
Also, a bullet striking bone can break into pieces. The pieces can be lethal, and they travel in unpredictable directions.
For example, when John F. Kennedy was shot, a bullet hit his skull and broke into pieces. One piece went completely through one of his legs.
I'm mentioning this because this is information about guns that they never show in the movies, but everyone ought to know about it.
