Subject: RE: st georges day a public holiday
St Alban has been proposed as a more appropriate patron saint of England (being actually English), unlike St George who never even set foot here). His saint's day is 20 June. Personally, I would favour St Bede, scholar of Jarrow and interred in Durham Cathedral. His day is 27 May. Both jolly good days for Morris dancing (wherever that came from . . . )
