I have family photographs from the days before TV, sofas and junk food - many from the 1920s and a few from just before WWI.

Know what? Barely a skinny woman in them (well OK, there is one woman who resembles Twiggy, but she died of leukemia 6 months after the photo was taken). Compared with my ancestors, I look like a half starved waif.

These were working women - dairymaids, seamstresses, parlour maids, cleaners, servants and farmers wives - no sitting around watching TV, no hamburgers, no doughnuts, no glossy magazines telling them how they should be.... they were all real women, with real lives and real bodies.

Womens' asses aren't getting bigger, mens' attitudes are getting smaller.
