Our neighbor's dog (who is a nice dog but affection-deprived, poor thing) developed a late-night barking habit and finally, whenever he got started and wouldn't shut up, my mother would call them (waking them up) and tell them that their dog was barking frantically and she was concerned that there might be someone in their yard. Did it two or three times and they finally got the message.
