My daughter and her family live in Escondido, California. In 1994, I believe it was, bad fires swept through many regions nearby. I was visiting at the time and from their back yard we could see the flames burning the hillside above the Wild Animal Park outside San Diego.

Their current home is in a boulder-strewn canyon. There is less vegetation - I think - but... It's a scary thought.

In 1994 my daughter's father in law refused to leave the stables where he had his horse boarded. He said that if the horse 'goes' he will too.

Neither of them did.
