There was a fire of some sort to the south of us this afternoon. I didn't hear any sirens, but when I went out back checking the dogs that burned grass and brush smell met me at the door. I got my daughter to stay near the land line phone and I drove the truck through the village to a point where I could see the fire was outside, and across a couple of boulevards from us (a couple of miles south). Caroline and I spoke by cell phone and she was to call 911 if I told her to. I didn't want any confusion with operators as to where my cell phone was for which fire department to be called.
