Thread Name: British Hit Singles & Albums Book/Linda Gayle
Subject: British Hit Singles & Albums Book/Linda
I am trying to determine if Linda Gayle (not Linda Gail (Gayle) Lewis, Jerry Lee Lewis' little sister) ever had one of her songs chart in the UK in the 1965 to 69 time period. I've asked at the Oldies Music Bulletin Board and found out none of her songs charted in Australia and I know they have not charted in the USA.

My favorite song that was at best a Promo in the USA was "Baby Don't Go" in 1966-67. This was not the Sonny & Cher hit. The flip side of the 45 was "Would It Make a Difference to You" a #64 charted hit for Etta James in 1963. GEMM.com and other vinyl record sales sites display Ms. Gayle's records for those of you that are interested in her music.

Here is the information I have found so far on this obscure female artist:

Ms. Gayle appeared several times on Shindig where she sang "Home of the Brave" and several other songs. She also appeared in a 5/5/65 Shindig "Tribute to Elvis segment where she sang "Don't Be Cruel" and "Crying in the Chapel"

From eBay:

{Quote}
"LINDA GAYLE Goodnight Irene/Stop Look Listen/Maggie's Farm/Got My Mojo Working 7" 45.
Portugal pressing on CBS. With Picture Sleeve. Great great great garage R&B workout! Also includes raucous cover of a Bob Dylan song" {End Quote} That Dylan song was Maggie's Farm.

There is very little information on this songstress and I never understood why she was not more popular. She certainly was easy on the eyes.

If you have the British Hit Singles and Album book or the earlier editions, please check if her songs charted. If anyone else can provide any information on Linda Gayle it would be appreciated. I plan on purchasing the British Hit book this fall to complement my collection of Whitburn's books, which now total nine.

Thanks,
