Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2006 Program Information
Well, I keep proposing this one after the Getaway's over periodically, so I'll try doing it BEFORE the Getaway this time. How about "Guilty Pleasures" AKA "Songs Your Husband/Wife/Partner/Best Friend leaves the room if you sing them..." For me, that's my extensive collection of Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane, Randy Newman, Warren Zevon, etc. songs.

We had a hilarious late-night song swap at another gathering this year in which a lot of dyed-in-the-wool folkies were singing "Teen Angel", "Wake Up Little Susie", and most of "American Pie", among others - mostly in tune... Ferrara and I enjoyed annoying BillD by singing "Rocky Raccoon" at an FSGW Open Sing a long time ago. Then there were those Getaway concerts of yore at Camp Letts where Dave Olive (AKA Blind Harry Palms) did "Don't Play A-11" with Mark Gilston accompanying him on Bulgarian bagpipes, or Bob Hitchcock and the Cockettes did "I Got Stoned and I Missed It"...

Maybe this is the sort of thing that can only be done after midnight, but since I don't get a chance to stick around that late, maybe we could slip in an hour of non-folky songs in the afternoon?

Since the Getaway's right before the elections, how about a song swap of "Presidents, Politicians and Other Invertebrates"? I'd see this as including songs like Uncle Dave's "Wreck of the Tennessee Gravy Train", "McKinley's Been Shot Down (Jest Give Me Somethin I'm Used To)", and whatever the equivalent types of songs are from across the Pond - anti-Thatcher ballads? Disraeli Gears?
