Thread Name: English traditional songs for children
Subject: RE: English traditional songs for children
I vaguely remember that there are 2 versions of keys of Canterbury, The one where she wont marry him until he offers her the key of his heart, and the other version where he says

I will give you the keys of my chest
All the money I possess
If you'll marry, arry arry arry
If you'll marry me

(but when she accepts he says)

Ha ha ha isn't it funny
She doesn't want me but she wants my money
I wont marry arry arry arry
I wont marry you

I think that the Opies wrote that the cynical version was found in childrens folklore
