Sandra in Sydney, Fifth Third Bank is headquartered in Cincinnati Ohio, USA. I always thought the name odd too, and inquie=red about it when I attended a function in the area. Apparently Fifth National and Third National banks merged and neither wanted to lose their identity, hence the name.

I had thought maybe it was the fifth instance of a third national bank or the like. In recent years, Fifth Third has gone on a buying spree and is now one of the nation's largest banks. As a matter of fact, I'm now a customer of theirs even though I'm still using checks with a bank name from two purchases back.

I assume you got one of the phishing emails purportedly from them in the past few days. It gave me pause for about ten seconds until I decided they could send me snail mail if they really wanted that info and I sent it the way of the rest of the junk mail.
