Thread Name: Write a song for Lincolnshire
Subject: RE: Write a song for Lincolnshire
Well i for one would like to see the parody of Song for Ireland in its totality.
I really love Lincolnshire - its my home county, but I'm not blind to its faults and I've taken too many other people there - not to know the effect it has on some people. Its not everyone's cup of tea, but as I've got older - I've found increasing pleasure in driving through the big skies around Boston, sorting through the tat at Grantham market, watching the bowls matches at Skeg, the simple pleasures of the alcopops gangs as they throw bags of chips around and queue up for the nightclub opening in Cleethorpes, Market rasen folk club, and the harmless yokel who runs it.... the list is endless.
It reminds me a bit of the story Alan Bennet tels about meeting Betjeman at a lecture on The Joys of Reading - and finding John B very disappointed that it was about the delights of literature - rather than that town in Berkshire.
The Joys of Reading ....now that would be a challenge! the serendipity of Slough.....!
Lincolnshire's better than those places.
