The tone of a guitar is produced by the sound box and the length of string between the nut and the saddle.

That dead bit of string between the bridge and the underside of the sound board doesn't really have anything to do with it. Anymore than that bit of string between the nut and the tuning machine.

If you want more mass to change the sound just take a few heavy screws and screw them into the sound board.
