Monroe recorded this is 1954 with Charlie Cline on lead. Charlie, the bass singer, sang lead as high as he could so that Monroe could sing bass. It is written by Wilber Jones and Bill said that he first heard it in the community singing schools and was the first to bring it to Nashville. There is a truly wonderful instrumental version by Kilby Snow on autoharp on Mike Seeger's recent compilation 'Close to Home' Smithsonian/Folkways SF CD-40097.--Stewie.
