"fresh" in not the issue...it's that CDs are small enough to slip in a pocket. They are hoping you won't take the trouble to cut thru all that stuff to steal it.

(LP records used to be fairly safe, but I worked in a store where they caught someone trying to smuggle one out in a frozen pizza box)
