I've just been listening to Seth Lakeman's hugely entertaining and brilliantly performed Kitty Jay album. It's great, but I was interested to note the level of inspiration he seems to have received from the Devon poet Graham Searle. About a decade ago he wrote a poem called ( I think) Blood on Copper which surely was the template for Seth's song of that name. It has the same sentiment, same structure, and indeed many of the same turns of phrase.
