John, I believe Dick doesn't perform without amplification. He's had voice problems in the past, and he was likely just trying to make sure his voice held out for subsequent audiences. There's a newsgroup post by him dealing with the subject here I don't know what happened with the money, but it seems to me Johnny D.'s should have refunded it.
