That bit about the black student (i.e. nostalgia for the good old days of an all-white Ireland) is so repulsively racist it boggles my mind that anybody can still sing that song outside of a KKK convention. I don't think there's any way to rescue it; sing it at all and people would still go back to the old version. Time to just bury it.
