In my area (US) the latest scam is to call claiming to take a survey, since "surveys" are exempted under the Do Not Call lists.

My usual response is to ask "Is this call worth $10,000 to you and your company?" - which they ALL immediately recognize as the standard fine for each Don't Call violation. All 7 or 8 such that I've received in the past month have immediately said "We'll remove your number from our list" with no further discussion.

Thus far, it's all people selling wanting to "discuss/demonstrate" "retirement investment plans" and "windows and siding."

Any scammer here who calls "collect" is most likely a porn/sex operation that's calling numbers at random (or that collected your number from some site you signed up for    ;< ) - so I'm told.)
