There is a great deal of difference between the trumpet, the cornet, the flugelhorn and their relatives and that harbringer of war, the bugle. A bugle (keyed, for instance, in D# or Cb) cannot easily change its key. A bugle can only play the range of notes that the bugler can form with his or her emboucher. The valved brasses, on the other hand, have a range and an ambience far, far greater than that of any stringed instrument! Have you never heard Nocturn for Trumpet and Lute, the world-renowned work by JS Bach? Of Beethoven's Trumpet Carress or Brahmns' Lullabye for Brass?? Moreover, guitars need electronic amplication to simply be heard....
