Actually, I thought Meatloaf's songs (I admit to having purchased two of his albums) were creative and interesting, both lyrically and musically. Yes his songs are long, and not my style for singing or playing, but I've found them worthy of my repeated attention. I've gotten some interesting strategies for dealing with scansion and rhythm from his work that I've tried to use in my own songwriting. It's very difficult for me to picture him as 59, however--he's sort of frozen in my mind as the character he played in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
