At the present time, no replacement for the Cavendish banana is planned. The growers - who are the ones most involved - are convinced the job is impossible without genetic engineering. They don't think people would buy them and refuse to waste their money creating them. There are a raft of other banana types but the standard table banana seems to be doomed.
