There was quite an interesting docu programme about comedy under communism last night on BBC4

Evidently 100,000 people were arrested in Hungary in 1956 for telling jokes about the government

250,000 were released in Russia in one amnesty alone

The jokes were worse than ours

Why is communist hell better than capitalist hell

Shortages mean there is less torture
