This morning saw the third suicide in my area within as many weeks. All young men in their twenties. I am told this latest one was due to a relationship break up, as were the other two.

Suicide rates three times as high for young men as women.
I visited the mental health unit this morning where I worked for 26 years and was speaking to staff about it. They said it's hard to take effective action to tackle the rising tide of male suicides, as very few of the victims ever come forward seeking help.

Rarely do young men ask for help, those that have seem to find being "dumped" or cheated on by young women just too much to handle.

Yes there are other reasons, but relationship problems seem to be top of the list.

Three times as many young men as young women take their own lives. The number of women committing suicide fell by 41% over the past ten years.

Men are known to be far less likely than women to ask for help if they have problems. One doctor told me a number of deaths recorded as road accidents are actually suicides. Cars driving into trees or walls.


If a disease came down to earth and devoured this number of young men, I imagine it would be a talking point.
