I think that there's been a real change in the attitude of people in regard to "not fighting back" since September 11, 2001. Look how many times a drunk or psychotic airline passenger was subdued by passengers and crew.

Somewhere the idea of "it's better for some to be hurt or dead than for everyone to die" has been reborn.
