Well, actually, though, Henry Ford was criticized for paying his workers $5.00 a day--an unheard of wage at the time. Other industrialists had a hissy-fit because they thought Ford was setting a horrible example, i.e., when the word got around, their workers would want good wages too!
But Ford was no dummy. He figured that it was just smart business to pay his workers enough so they could afford to buy the automobiles they were making.
