Thread Name: BS: A call to all philosophers, myth makers
Subject: RE: BS: A call to all philosophers, myth makers
edit:
...Its a better setting for a philosopher than a lonely mountain top.
As a whole my nation is not thinking. Without thinking people we are left with people who believe they are the only chosen ones who love America. They hate those who point to our mistakes to the point that progressives, liberals and libertarians are accuse of hating America.
Even if I did hate my country I would be doing it in the privacy of my own home while fundamentalist evangical christians are having neighborhood meetings and home gatherings to share the latest talking points and wars on tolerence.
What thinking people need to do is employ the house meeting strategy.
"God" knows even the PTA has become political, although it probably always has been. The credo could be for non political free thought with malice toward none. A place where no one is told what to believe. Free thinking could be invited for anything from involving neghborhood safety concerns to local energy stratagizing_ Just as long as the focus is only on thinking for ourselves and not overpowered by talking points of established religion or politics. Not canned thinking or think tanks - just a place where people are free to think aloud without condemnation.
I don't know what to call a national movement to get people talking and thinking together in a setting other than church... but with the disappearence of the town square and eventually the internet (if the carriers get their way from the FCC) we will need a place to talk.
Is it a no brainer? a pipe dream? an exercise in redundency? I don't know. I will need to know what you think.
a movement for thinking groups that is not secular, not religious, not political... Am I nuts or could such a thing catch fire? Or is this only the sort of association that happens only AFTER catastrophe?
