Thread Name: Welcome New Members--February 28, 2000
Subject: RE: Welcome New Members--February 28, 2000
PRAISEPOEMS FOR GUESTSharon AND JACOB B

We're grieving more shootings today at the 'Cat,
Yet 'Cat life goes on, thank God, fancy that.
I've posted my thoughts on the subject so sad,
Thanks Newbies for a chance just to grin-downright-glad.

GUEST Sharon, by posting yourself in this thread
You've joined without joining, thus welcome is said.
Ye've come to the right part of town to share tunes,
An' no shortage here, either, of loons and buffoons.

I salute ye fer singin', 'tis instrument enough!
I hope you'll join HearMe, an' show Mudcat yer stuff.
Be sure when ye join us official-like you're sharin'
Whatever name o' the 'Cat ye be wearin'!

These threads you call "mail" belong to us all,
BTW, post early, post whenever the call!
This mail is YOUR mail, I'd tell you, as folkies may say,
Open it all! Sort or don't! At least once a day!

As far as our bringing you songs for to sing,
At Mudcat you'll find trade's the best o' the thing.
So I'd ask when you take on your new Mudcat name,
How 'bout Sharon a song ta yer long-lastin' fame!

Bring Andy along with his fiddle and bow,
Stay for a decade or more, just don't go.
Choose from among us whoever you wish,
As your guides, friends, and mentors, at this 'Cat that's a fish.

Jacob B calls for a dance at the 'Cat,
Imagine! A dance at the Tavern! Top that!
He came for the lyrics but stayed for the Pi,
And found that his old friends were here, don't know why!

So count us your new friends, Jacob B, do,
There's always a lyric or link that is new.
"Welcome to Mudcat" is easy to say--
What I mean, though, sincerely, is I hope you will stay.

And about your protesting, "Musician I'm not"--
Guess what, dearest Jacob-- that stuff is all rot!
God made us musical, loving, and true.
Since He's all-powerful-- it applies, too, to you!

I say that precisely so I can go on
To remind y'all rhythm's the heart of each song.
And to SHOUTout the awfullest truth that I've told--
I'M A CLAVE-PLAYER, TOO! Claves or bones-- play them BOLD!
