1966 was a big year for me. It was really the year I grew up in a big way. It was my first year working, the year I left home and discovered I actually could take charge of my life and do some of the things I wanted to do without my overbearing mother breathing down my neck.
It was my first year of freedom. The music of that time was very significant in my life - not folk music at that stage but bands like Manfred Mann, The Kinks, The Animals, and many of the local rhythm and blues bands. To tell the truth, I was a bit of a groupie, but I learned a lot and I had a ball. In many ways it was probably just about the best year of my life and I don't regret one minute of it. I remember that period of my life with a lot of fondness.
Pity I had to throw it all away the next year and marry a tyrant. It was many years later before I felt as free again. I'm starting to get there now.
